Our mission

LoonieLabs exists to make Canadian financial information accessible, accurate, and free. Government tools are scattered across half a dozen websites, hard to use, and often confusing the moment your situation isn't average. We build the calculators and explainers we wished existed: clean, fast, and reviewed against the actual CRA and IRCC source documents every quarter.

Who we are

LoonieLabs is an independent publisher based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. A large part of the site is built around immigration and settling in, because that is where Canadian money information is hardest to find and easiest to get wrong. We are not a bank, not a brokerage, not an immigration consultancy, and not a licensed financial advisor.

How we keep tools accurate

Every calculator and article is reviewed at least every 90 days against primary sources — CRA, IRCC, Statistics Canada, the Bank of Canada, and provincial finance ministries. Annual constants (tax brackets, TFSA/RRSP limits) are refreshed within 14 days of the CRA's announcement so January 1 calculations are correct on day one.

Every indexed calculator, article, and guide shows a "Last reviewed" date. Spotted a mistake? Email us and we'll publish a fix within 7 days.

How we make money

We're transparent about this because most finance sites aren't.

• Display advertising via Google AdSense. This is what we're applying for now. Ads do not influence editorial content, ordering, or recommendations. Editors do not see which advertisers appear on which pages.
• No affiliate commissions at the time of writing. We do not currently earn referral fees from any bank, credit card issuer, brokerage, or immigration consultant featured on the site. If that ever changes for a specific page we add a clearly-labelled disclosure on that page before any link goes live.
• No paid placement. We do not accept money to feature, recommend, or rank any product. We do not publish "sponsored posts" disguised as reviews.

Our editorial standards

• Primary sources only — we read the CRA technical document, not someone else's summary of it.
• No mass-produced articles, no fake bylines, no recycled press releases dressed up as analysis.
• Every figure is traceable to a public source. If we can't cite it, we don't publish it.
• Material corrections include a dated note at the top of the affected page for at least 30 days.
• Calculators do not transmit your inputs anywhere. The math runs in your browser.
