Shrey Patel founded LoonieLabs in 2024 to make Canadian financial information genuinely usable. He oversees every calculator, signs off on every 'Last reviewed' date, and personally reviews every reader correction. LoonieLabs takes no affiliate commissions from the banks, brokerages, or credit cards it covers.
LoonieLabs is an independent Canadian publisher founded and edited by Shrey Patel. Every calculator and article is built from primary sources: CRA, IRCC, Statistics Canada, the Bank of Canada, and provincial finance ministries. We have no affiliate relationships with any bank, credit card, or immigration consultant featured on this site.
What I oversee

How I verify information
Every page on LoonieLabs goes through the same baseline check before it's published or re-reviewed, plus a topic-specific pass depending on what the page covers:
- Numbers re-verified against official sources every 90 days
- Tax constants updated within 14 days of CRA announcements
- Immigration data refreshed within 7 days of IRCC posting
- Reader corrections reviewed within 48 hours
For tax and benefit pages, that means cross-checking figures against current CRA notices and published rate tables (tax and benefit figures are cross-checked against current cra notices and published rate tables). For immigration content, it means verifying CRS, NOC, and processing-time figures against the latest published IRCC data. For banking and credit content, it means re-checking bank, card, GIC, and HISA figures against each issuer's own disclosure pages rather than relying on secondhand comparison sites.
