Estimate your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score for Express Entry. This simplified calculator covers the core human capital factors — age, education, first official language, and Canadian work experience.
IRCC uses the CRS to rank every profile in the Express Entry pool and decide who gets an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence. A higher score means a better chance of being invited in a general or category-based draw. The core human capital factors below — age, education, official language ability, and Canadian work experience — max out at 460 points for a single applicant (500 with a spouse), out of the CRS's overall 1,200-point ceiling. The remaining points come from skill-transferability combinations and "additional points" (a valid job offer, a Provincial Nominee Program nomination, French-language ability, a sibling in Canada, or Canadian education), none of which this simplified tool captures.
Worked example
A 32-year-old applicant with a bachelor's degree, CLB 9 in their first official language, and 2–3 years of Canadian work experience scores: age 94 + education 120 + language 124 (31 × 4 abilities) + experience 53 = 391 points on core human capital factors alone. That's already above most recent Canadian Experience Class cutoffs, before adding any points for a spouse, a job offer, a PNP nomination, or Canadian education — all of which would push the total higher.
Age is the single most volatile factor here. That same applicant at 20–29 instead of 32 would score 110 for age instead of 94 — a 16-point swing from age alone, more than most single-year CRS movements in a draw. Applicants over 45 score 0 for age, which is why category-based draws (French language, healthcare, trades) matter disproportionately for older candidates: they compete on a smaller, differently-weighted pool rather than the general system where age dominates.
