Newton Crypto Tax Reporting 2026: Exports, Slips, and Filing
TL;DR
Pull the Newton tax CSV → consolidate ACB across every exchange and wallet you use → report dispositions on Schedule 3 → apply the 2026 inclusion rate (50% under $250K, 66.67% above) → flow the taxable amount to T1 Line 12700.
What Newton provides
- Annual tax summary CSV with proceeds, cost basis (Newton-internal), gain/loss
- Full transaction history CSV — every buy, sell, transfer, deposit, withdrawal
- Reports to CRA as a FINTRAC-registered MSB; CARF reporting active in 2026
- No T5008 for most users — Schedule 3 self-reporting
Pulling the export
- Open Newton → Profile → Statements
- Select the tax year
- Download "Tax Summary" CSV
- Download "Transaction History" CSV (full audit trail)
- Save both — CRA can request 6 years post-filing
The cross-platform ACB step
Newton's tax summary uses cost basis tracked inside Newton only. If you bought BTC on Newton AND on another exchange, your true ACB for CRA purposes is the weighted average across both. For the full method see our multi-exchange ACB walkthrough and our ACB calculator.
Reporting on the T1
- Capital-gains investor: aggregate by coin → Schedule 3, then T1 Line 12700
- Active trader: Form T2125 → T1 Line 13500 (full inclusion at marginal rate)
- Foreign holdings > $100K CAD ever in the year: also file Form T1135
Newton-specific gotchas
- Off-platform withdrawals: moving crypto from Newton to a self-custody wallet isn't taxable, but Newton's ACB calculation may show a "disposition" that you must explain on filing.
- Recurring buys: each scheduled buy is a separate ACB-affecting event. The CSV captures them all.
- Promotional crypto rewards: referral or signup bonuses are taxable as income at FMV when received.
