Total wages earned over the 4 weeks before the holiday ÷ days actually worked. Use 5% of wages over 4 weeks for irregular shift workers.
Calculate your Alberta stat pay →Not every Canadian holiday is a paid stat in Alberta. Alberta does not observe Easter Monday, Boxing Day, or the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as paid provincial holidays.
These rules apply across all of Alberta including Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer, Lethbridge, Fort McMurray — provincial labour standards don't vary by city. Federally regulated employees in these cities (banks, airlines, telecoms) follow the federal stat holiday rules instead.
You must have worked for the same employer for at least 30 days in the previous 12 months AND worked your scheduled shift before and after the holiday (unless excused).
Stat pay PLUS 1.5× regular rate for hours worked on the holiday. OR regular wages plus a future day off with pay.
If the holiday falls on your day off and you don't normally work that day, you may still get average daily wage as stat pay if eligible.
