Wages earned in last 4 work weeks ÷ 20
Add up all the regular wages and vacation pay you earned in the 4 work weeks before the holiday. Divide by 20. That's your stat pay — period.
Calculate your Ontario stat pay →Not every Canadian holiday is a paid stat in Ontario. Ontario does not observe Easter Monday, Remembrance Day, or the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as paid provincial holidays.
These rules apply across all of Ontario including Toronto, Ottawa, Mississauga, Hamilton, London — provincial labour standards don't vary by city. Federally regulated employees in these cities (banks, airlines, telecoms) follow the federal stat holiday rules instead.
Almost all employees qualify. Ontario removed the 'last and first' shift rule in 2018, so missing your shift before or after the holiday no longer disqualifies you.
If you work the holiday, you get your regular wages PLUS 1.5× your hourly rate for hours worked, OR your stat pay PLUS your regular pay for the day, with a substitute day off later (employer chooses, with employee agreement).
You still get the stat pay calculated above. The holiday is treated like any other paid day.
