Take a worker earning $25/hour for 40 hours/week for the 4 weeks before the holiday. Total wages over the lookback period: $4000.00. Applying the Nova Scotia formula gives a stat pay of $200.00. If they also work the holiday, they get an additional $300.00 in premium pay.
You must have been employed at least 30 calendar days, earned wages on 15 of the last 30 days, and worked your scheduled shifts before and after the holiday (unless excused).
Stat pay PLUS 1.5× regular rate for hours worked.
If you meet eligibility and the holiday falls on a non-working day, you get a paid day off in lieu OR an extra day's pay.
Note that Remembrance Day in NS has its OWN separate Act with stricter rules than other holidays.
The Nova Scotia Employment Standards Act applies uniformly across the province — these rules cover workers in Halifax, Sydney, Truro, Dartmouth and everywhere else.
