These rules apply across all of Nova Scotia including Halifax, Sydney, Truro, Dartmouth — provincial labour standards don't vary by city. Federally regulated employees in these cities (banks, airlines, telecoms) follow the federal stat holiday rules instead.
You must have been employed at least 30 calendar days, earned wages on 15 of the last 30 days, and worked your scheduled shifts before and after the holiday (unless excused).
Stat pay PLUS 1.5× regular rate for hours worked.
If you meet eligibility and the holiday falls on a non-working day, you get a paid day off in lieu OR an extra day's pay.
